I think you missed my argument, Murray  - or maybe you missed your own? It 
was YOU (look Ma - all caps!) who said "That's why Tom Verlaine is cool and 
Richard Thompson is in the worthy but DULL category." Unless you meant 
something very different by "why" than most people do, you were saying that 
RT is "worthy but dull" _because_ he is (according to Jeffrey) humorous and 
committed to his fans (whereas Verlaine is "cool" _because_ he (according 
to you) "doesn't give a flying fuck whether [his music] sells or not and 
doesn't do it for his fans but for himself"). That's very different from 
saying you don't like RT because you, well, just don't like him.

Or to turn the question on its head: do you like the music of _all_ 
musicians who "make music and don't really give a flying  f u c k  whether 
it sells or not and don't do it for their fans but for themselves" - or 
does your own irrational, personal taste enter into it as well?

As for Interpol, I saw them a while back, thought they were pretty good but 
got monotonous (I mean DULL!!  8^)= ) after a while. Then again, that Joy 
Division drone thing they trade so heavily on isn't really my bag.
