(TV) RE: Marketing Strategy?/Musical Obsession

Good one Philip ... dead-on and damn funny re: Fontana Records' frustration
with Mr. Verlaine.
.........................................................
My latest musical 'obsession': a band (and 2007 2nd album) named 'Ultra
Orange & Emmanuelle'.

They remind me a lot of The Velvet Underground (esp. the lead singer's
Nico-ish vocals and lyrics [in a good way]). However, it's the band's
overall sound and the wash of the guitars that sucked me in.

I discovered their music while watching a recent HBO documentary by
filmmaker Marina Zenovich called 'Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired'. It
was highly acclaimed at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

>From Independent Film Quarterly (IFQ): Emmanuelle Seigner contributed her
song "Rosemary's Lullaby," an homage to Polanski, which played during the
closing credits. Were you specifically looking to use Mia Farrow's original
lullaby in Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby" and you stumbled upon a version by
Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle or are you a fan of their music? How did it all
come about?

Marina Zenovich (MZ): ......... When I was in Paris, I went to FNAC and
found her album (Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle) and I held the barcode up and
listened to track 1, listened to track 3 and then oh my god, I heard-

IFQ: 'Rosemary's Lullaby'. I like to play that song when I drive. [Smiles.]

MZ: It gives me chills. [Smiles.]

IFQ: Me too. [Laughs.]

Leo: Me three.

"Zenovich cleverly ....... underscores pic's psychological insights with
clips from the director's films, sampling from 'Repulsion,' 'Knife in the
Water,' 'Chinatown,' 'The Tenant' and, most prominently, 'Rosemary's
Baby,'.... Best use of all, however, is of his 1961 black-and-white short
film 'The Fat and the Lean,' which wittily sums up the relationship between
Rittenband and Polanski."
