I'm not sure what Tom meant by that. But you didn't have to be privileged to
live in NYC's East Village in the mid to late 70's.
When I first met Fred he was splitting a basement "apartment" for something
like $56 a month. Most apartments in the East Village in those days were
like that, but it was a dangerous neighborhood, so it wasn't all that
"wonderful".


. "People like that"? What's that supposed to mean then -
