This brings up the whole subject for those on MM List who are/were married orare/were in a (serious) relationship: having strong preferences and great passionfor music do/did you have to 'work extra hard' at not offending yourwives'/girlfriends' musical tastes, and what is the secret of getting your belovedto put up with' your Television/TV predilections?
I don't have any great experience to contribute in this area, but I will offer a useful acronym from the Richard Thompson list: SPUD, which stands for "SPouse Under Duress" or "Significant Person Under Duress," to refer to the long-suffering non-appreciator of RT's music who is involved with a major RT fan.
I'll also mention that a good friend, my former officemate, a major fan of both Blue Note Jazz and various "out" sounds (John Zorn, Krautrock, etc.), is very happily married to a woman whose taste in music, such as it is, leans toward Europop. So even for music nuts like ourselves, concordance on musical tastes is hardly the most important factor in a good relationship.
