Leo--
Thanks for sending the dream--very interesting, and I'm not sure what
to make of it. Dream logic is fascinating, isn't it?
As for the list:

Kid Congo Powers[??] (the Gun Club),
I'm not familiar with his Gun Club work, but he's in my favorite
lineup of the Bad Seeds. Hard to pick his contributions out from
Blixa's there, though.
Robbie Robertson [none of his post-Band stuff, but see esp. playing on
"The Last Waltz" esp. B. Dylan's 5 songs at end!];
He does love those pinch harmonics too much, though. His playing on
the first two Band records is great, however. BTW, having watched
the DVD recently, I find myself wondering why Robertson got all the
attention (and the acting offers) when Rick Danko was a lot better
looking in the film.
Neil Young [(love him, but (blasphemy I know)] he plays the same 3
riffs on almost
all of his harder stuff],
Dunno about three, but it's true that there is a very Neil Young-ish
territory he's best staying in. It actually made the blues jam
footage on the _Last Waltz_ DVD worth listening to.
The guys in the original Velvet Underground (e.g., "I Can't Stand
It" and live version of
"We're' gonna Have A Real Good Time"],
Since you mentioned John Lennon on rhythm, I was going to mention
Sterling as one of the best rhythm players I can think of...but there
you are.
Bill Frizzel[sp?],
Frisell. If you can find it, pick up Naked City's _Radio_. Just do
it. I don't know what Zorn did to him on those sessions, but his
playing there just kicks the ass of his solo playing.
Jimi Hendrix [just a personal taste thing: I find his guitar tone unappealing.
His playing is always technically brilliant, but it doesn't move me on an
emotional level at all. I think there's too much masculinity, if
that's actually
possible for a guitarist, in his playing as well.
Even "The Wind Cries 'Mary'"? I think his clean tone on this is
exquisite. There's a fluidity to his playing that's really apparent
on the clean stuff.
