Re: (TV) BS as TV prototype
I have no problem seeing Stills and Young interplay as a proto-type of the
Verlaine/Lloyd interplay - except who maps to who ? For me , it's easy to
hear the Neil Young influence on Verlaine and Lloyd but I'm not so sure
about Stills. In all the interviews I've read of Verlaine or Lloyd I've
never read of either man claiming a Neil Young influence. Richard Lloyd did
contribute a scorching (for lack of a better hyperbole) version of Herat of
Gold on a Neil Young tribute record: "The is Note is For You Too" . Critics
have brought up Neil Young when referring to Verlaine's playing. It was the
fact that I could hear a Young influence in Television that originally
attracted me to the band . I bought the Buffalo Springfield box set recently
and I am very pleased with it - except for the fact that they ( Mr Stills
and Mr Young) intentionally left out the very obscure yet awesome live jam
recording of Bluebird ( it's about as long as Marquee Moon ) . I never heard
the 'Brown Shoes don't make it' quote . That's pretty hilarious. SPeaking
of Mother's....anyone read "Necessity Is" ? It's a pretty fun read on the
history of the Mother of Invention.
