Re: (TV) U-2 / Bunnymen / "The Verlaines" / It's Yonki Time!
hey leo, list...
i'd have to step in here & assert that the bunnymen up
to a point were a pretty damn great band (superior to
u2 in lotsa ways), tho yr right in that sergeant was
never the guitarist verlaine was/is...
still & all, the whole of the b-men's parts worked
quite well for a stretch of 5 yrs or so..(79-85)
i still play "crocodiles" regularly & tho it's been
said (by the b-men emselves) that tv was a big
influence, you can also hear love, the doors, dylan, &
1st wave britpunk in there, not to mention a huge
NUGGETS fixation...
as for the verlaines, they actually had a great early
single called "death & the maiden",...other stuff
paled....but to be fair, they named emselves after the
french poet, NOT tom verlaine...(tho what
playful/serious music obsessive wouldn't make the tv
connection)...
i say screw u2 & their
witless/cheap/feeble/sad/bullshit attempts to remain
hip.....they've had their moments, but christ GIMME
the ROLLING STONES for old guys still at it...
bono's become a 1st class pandering chump...like a
pimp for leering old men.
