Re: Now cast. Re: (TV) "CGBG": New talents casted; still no Verlaine
Well, whoever plays Tom, I can't help but agree with the person here (Rex
Broome) who suggests Tom will likely be none too pleased
about being depicted
in the movie. Or at least he may have very mixed
feelings.If so, I can't
blame him. Is Tom the kind of guy who will
appreciate a screenwriter who's
probably never met him putting words in
Tom's mouth, inventing conversations
he never had, & likely
depicting him in incidents that never occurred, or
didn't happen the way the movie will portray them? I don't think so!
I like
documentaries bettter than
docu-dramas, 'cause the fictionalized ones are
virtually certain to be
full distortion, misinformation, &
mis-characterization about people & what happened. They're typically geared to
entertain with drama, instead of trying to be true to facts. Not that
documentaries always
get facts right, but they stand a better chance. I've
been a Doors fan
since the '60s but have never seen, nor have wanted to see
Oliver
Stone's movie ''The Doors''. Not since I read during its making that
Ray Manzarek, who'd been a creative consultant early on, had been banned
from
the set for complaining Stone was inventing scenes of Jim Morrison
doing &
saying things Jim never did or said, & never would have
done! So, I've not
wanted to see Stone's ''biographical'' movie full of
apparent lies about the
Doors. Is there any reason to think this CBGBs
movie will likely do much
better in accurately depicting CBGBs' history? Probably not!
After seeing the
fine Ramones
doc. ''End of the Century'', & excellent BBC Blondie doc. ''One
Way
or Another'', it makes me wish someone would make a well-done Television
doc. too. I like this quote from Dee Dee Ramone from an interview clip
from
that Ramones doc. movie. QUOTE: ''I loved Television. That was
CBGBs to me,
some lonely night with ten people there, & Television
playing...Tom
Verlaine's Venus de Milo song. It was great, y'know.'' I like hearing actual
words recounting recollections, spoken by musicians who were there, such as
Dee Dee. Those kinds of truthful little gem quotes are findable in docs. But
in docu-dramas full of made-up ****? Not so likely, eh?!
