I use Amazon.com. 256kbps files, no DRM, $0.99.

Also, I use MediaMonkey, not iTunes, to manage my iPod. Free and more fully-featured.

the good news is, apple is removing copy protection on itunes, and increasing quality.  the bad news is, you have to pay .30 to re-download the new versions of stuff you've already bought.
