Re: Assholes in Attendance / Re: (TV) Richard at TT the Bears, Boston
My reaction to requests for *total* silence from Richard (and
according to
my watch the 20-minute!! standoff in which it resulted) was that
Richard was
a very courageous person for doing what he did, or he was a very
stupid
person. I kept going back and forth all night and still can't decide.
I chalked it up to sheer orneriness and a desire to speak out and own
up to all the weirdness he has previously kept in check. (Thus the
wiggy interviews of late, of which his onstage comments seemed a
piece.) He seems like he just doesn't give a shit what other people
think anymore.
PS: Ty where were you standing in several different spots?
I was standing right up front to the left of Richard, with a straight
shot at the guitar amp -- that's why the guitar work sounded just
fine to me. Didn't move from there. But yes, the vocals were murky.
Were you near the couple (sometimes 2) dancing to most of
Richard's song? Or near the
guy/gal with the over-powering cologne that smelled more like a
powerful
anti-perpirant? Or were you wearing a disguise that made you now
unrecognizable to everyone except your family and Wesley Morris?
I was near the woman in cornrows dancing like it was Jerry Garcia and
the cute couple cuddling throughout the set as if "Soldier Blue" was
"their song". And who knows -- maybe it is. I don't know why we
didn't see each other, Leo. Is it possible the force of Richard's
uncompromising belief system and/or chord progressions split the room
into parallel realities, so that you and I were actually watching him
from the same location in the club but in different time-space
vertices? Or maybe I should have turned around more.
