(TV) First recorded Television moment
Was listening to Marquee Moon in the car today and it reminded me of the
first time I heard Television. I wish I could say it was "Little Johnny
Jewel" but , although living in London throughout the '70s was great, it
was kind of hard to nip down to CBGB in the evening. The first recorded
note I heard of TV was "Elevation" on the Old Grey Whistle test in '77.
No band, just the song and some cheesy animation. I remember it well -
the moment when _that_ chord comes in and throws you right off straight
after "...Don't go to my head!" and I was really stoned and I thought,
"What the fuck was *that*?" And I still feel exactly the same way. For
me, "Elevation" is *the* quintessential Television song. I only have to
hear it and I remember exactly why my listening habits changed the very
next day.
(Funnily enough, the same thing happened when I first saw Roxy Music on
the OGWT in 1972)
First times...?
