(TV) OT: Occasionally this comes up (recording software)

Whenever this has come up in the past, I've recommended Audacity 
(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).  If you're interested in 
something more multitrack, I just encountered this one (again free 
and open source...though it might be *nix and OS X only), and it 
looks interesting:  http://ardour.org/
