my boyfriend got me van dyke parks's _song cycle_. 
i've only listened to it once but it is amazing.  he
also gave me a copy of _this wheel's on fire_, levon
helm's book about the band.  i'm a little nervous
about reading it, but so far levon helm has a sense of
absurdity about who he is, so it's fun.
