RE: (TV) Geez, it's been quiet - did I break the list again?
Yeah it's been a while hasn't it
as usual I'm completely overwhelmed with CDs and vinyl. While I was in NY I
saved a bunch of records from my teenage collection where they were stored
in my sisters basement and had them sent out to me here in California.
here's a partial list:
them featuring Van Morrison - amazing cuts: if you and I could be as two;
could you, would you? don't look back (!!)
jonathan richman - it's time for: it's you; corner store; double chocolate
malted; just about seventeen - rockin' Andy Paley production, one of JoJo's
best.
bob dylan - most likely you go your way and I'll be mine - blonde on blonde
is better on vinyl, (none of this 'oh it's so convenient, two records on one
CD' bulls++t)
camper van beethoven - II&III
The Handless Organist (Rev. Albert a Baker - Organ) I want a double portion
(of what Elisia had) - yeah well don't we all?
the Zombies first album on parrot records
spacemen 3 - the perfect prescription
pavement - perfect sound forever 10"
pavement - crooked rain, crooked rain
clash - black market clash 10"
sonic youth - 1st lp (ep?) 1982 - actor Richard Edson on drums
velvet underground & nico - guitar tones sound completely different than the
CD
my original Red Bird 45 of the Shangri-La's leader of the pack is cracked
all the way through on one side and it still plays (and kicks ass)
and then there's the CD pile on a chair next to my desk:
go-betweens - send me a lullaby
the great lost album
I seemed to have worked backwards in getting into this band (first one I
heard was 16 lovers lane). it's amazing how different they sounded in their
infancy. in the liner notes Forster says he didn't want to write songs like
Lee Remick when he was 26. Hell I'm 31; I'd kill to write a song like that
now.
east river pipe - shining moments in a can - this guy F.M. Cornog is, i
think, the best of the bedroom 4-track recorders. get this
Peter Dizzoza - Pro-Chioce on Mental Health - an eccentric NYC performance
artist who puts on musical plays and does monologues, weird stuff, kind of
like a schizophrenic Woody Allen
Robyn Hitchcock - Jewels For Sophia - at least three total classics on this
one. nice production.
Descendents - Everything Sucks - I bought this for my 14 year old niece who
likes Blink 182 and Saves The Day. Very strong comeback album. Green Day
stole everything from them.
Very Be Careful - The Rose - local (L.A.) Cumbia band, friends of
mine -throw great parties
as far as driving music -well I have piles of cdrs now, 1000s of mp3s. not
only do I make them for driving but I also make them for the restaurant
where I work (so I'm kind of like a dj/waiter). here's what I crank driving
through Hollywood and silver lake:
dick and dee dee - where did all the good times go
go-betweens - apology accepted
marshall tucker band - this ol' cowboy
rolling stones - that's how strong my love is
smith - baby it's you
pogues - yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
jackie deshannon - be good baby
john stewart - gold
louise cordet - two lovers
trini lopez - pretty eyes, if i had a hammer
jonathan richman - govt. center
van morrison - chick a boom (bang masters)
bevis frond - he'd be a diamond
bobby fuller - let her dance
clash - lose this skin (tymon dogg)
andrea true connection - more more more
nervous eaters - the times they are a changing
nrbq - ridin in my car (kind of obvious, i know)
paul westerberg - we may well be the one (he's still got it)
pavement - kennel district (spiral stairs is the unsung hero of pavement)
and yes ...
tom verlaine - breakin in my heart
whew I can go on all night, but I'm going out soon to see The Brian
Jonestown Massacre and Wayne Kramer.
see ya round,
GL
