(TV) Adventure vocals sounded like Patti Smith / Pretenders

I once had a roomate who claimed TV's 1980 solo 
albums' vocals were a dead ringer for Chrissie Hynde [spelling?] 
of the Pretenders.  

Other than the ocassional strong nasality in their voices,  
the comparison always seemed strange to me.
