RE: (TV) Bowie makes great album! shock / Eno
H.,
I felt just like you with Heathen at first--not that
impressed--- but then I came back to it after a few weeks
and gave it some repeated listenings.
You're right it doesn't break any
new ground, but I think "Everyone Says Hi", "Afraid" and
the 2 covers are real standouts.
Give it a few more listens.

I wasn't aware of the Eno connection/contribution on "I Thought"
until you mentioned it. For me it's the best written song (along
"San Simeon") much more mature lyrics and less poppy/Roxy-neo-discoish
sound. ['I thought I'd be your streetcar named desire']
I know this is bizarre but 'I Thought' reminds me a lot of Kate and Anna McCarrigle
songs --very romantic, a loping beat, almost a French Canadian/Cape Breton folk sound.
