they were all part of a scene that
included legendary heroin use/abuse
and that traded on/played up that 
aspect of the scene.

i don't think the question was ridiculous.

trying to distuinguish legend (or rumour) 
from truth is the fan's role. failure at 
that attempt sustains fandom.
