(TV) Short, shameful confession

Van Dyke Parks's _Song Cycle_: I honestly can't get into this thing 
at all.  There are some really good ideas, but they're buried in a 
lot of overly theatrical "period" corniness.  And then there's his 
singing...  (Yup, I know how weird that complaint sounds coming from 
someone who likes Jandek...)  I've heard that people fall into one of 
two camps on this thing, and I've just found out which one is mine. 
Anyone willing to offer a counter-argument in favor of it?
