Philip P. Obbard" <pobbard@yahoo.com>asked:
"Since this is on-topic... Sam, what do you think of TIME? How is the second
disc? Quality, performance, etc."
phillip:
brief disclaimer: i've only listened to the discs twice so far. i hope to
rectify that today.
as i never had the roir cassette, i really dig the set. but there are some
quality issues w/both discs. but the best part about it for me is quine's
playing on both discs. he really shines. it's like he's hell's secret
weapon. even tho hell has played w/both tom & thunders, i prefer quine's
playing on songs like blank generation to either of them. (i
know---outrage!!!) the second disc has great performances but the quality is
that of a cleaned up portable cassette recording. it openes w/some reggae
coming over the pa, then quine blasts forth the into to love comes in
spurts. it's an amazing moment. did quine really study at the berkley school
of music? i seem to remember his id photo on the insert of the blank
generation lp. & when did he do this? before or after law school? but i
digress, both recordings on the second disc have been floating around
traders circles for a while, but i bet this will be the best quality. great
liner notes from hell, too. if you're into hell& the voidoids, i'd say get
the discs. but don't expect 24 bit cd quality.
