It might be Rhino Handmade's impending release of WHAT TIME IS IT ANYWAY: THE
COMPLETE 'YONKI TIME' SESSIONS, an 8 CD boxed set and 24 page full-color
booklet dedicated to the writing, arranging, recording, and production of that
pivotal song from Verlaine's debut LP. It contains something like 120 alternate
takes, mixes, and outtakes from the sessions, including the
proposed-but-never-heard single mix and a 9-minute DJ mix.
The highlight of the set is the final CD, which documents Jay Dee Daugherty's
work with the recording engineer to mike his drum set to perfection.
But I'm just guessing.
