Cameron, you can get the stooges two first lps, _The Stooges_, and _Fun House_ for $8.99 a piece @hmv.com. It's definitely the best way to start. Fun House is my favorite Stooges lp, but then you can go with Raw Power (A great record, but it has quite a few weak songs)
As for Iggy Solo, Lust For Life is a pretty damn good album, but beware a lot of bad stuff from the 80's. (If I hear Candy one more time at a "glam rock" night I'll crack).
There is also a compilation called Nude & Rude, which features stuff from _The Stooges_ and _Raw Power_, (NO FUN HOUSE. WTF?!?!?) and solo stuff, but the second half is usually skipped over to due the filler.
There are many many live stooges releases. apparently the best one is Metallic K.O. (altho i've never seen/heard it myself). I have one called California Bleeding, and as you can imagine with the havoc at Stooges show, the sound quality leaves much to be desired.
hope this helps some.
