"song" is really good. it's one of those verlaine songs that's easy to
forget, but as soon as you hear it, you remember why tom is so good at
fighting crime (making music). mary marie is like that, as well, i think.
it has great lyrics. so does "pillow", but i think it needs to be
re-recorded. the "tramps" version is quite interesting. tom starts on the
chorus and then stops the song about 30 seconds in and says: "it sounds like
shit with the brushes... we're so reckless..."

"Song" is one of my favorite -- well, songs, by just about anybody.
I'm thinking of using the final lyric as an epigraph to my doctoral
dissertation: "These difficult questions tell me a joke." I always
hear a double meaning in that line: (a) difficult questions are, in
their own way, funny; (b) "I'm overwhelmed by difficult questions;
please tell me a joke to take them off my mind" (i.e., "These
difficult questions/Tell me a joke").
