(TV) Who is Jaco Pastorius?

hi TV'ers,

Who is Jaco Pastorius? He has been mentioned one or twice previously. All I 
know
is that by mistake I ordered a cd from a band called "The Essence" and I got 
this
terrible dance band music. The band that I was looking for is based in 
Holland.
And Jaco is involved with another band called "Essence", but I don't think 
it's the same dance band cd that I got. So what's this guy's history?
