(TV) The Old "Ray Davies is an anti-semite" thread

1. Wasn't that song written for a movie where the main character really is
conflicted because he's dating a Jewish woman? I believe the story behind the
song is explained in the liner notes to THE GREAT LOST KINKS ALBUM. 

2. Didn't John Lennon write and release a single with the word "Nigger" in it?
Yeah, I know he didn't mean it *that way*, but I could easily argue that using
it was colossally insensitive anyway. Did he write a song where he said "I'd
rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man" (stealing from
Elvis, but still), possibly one of the most misogynistic lines on any British
Invasion-era record?

In other words, if you pass judgement based on a single statement, you're
missing the plot. Like the Washington, DC city office that dismissed that
finance guy for using the word "niggardly" in conversation because they thought
it was derived from "nigger" (only to sheepishly hire him back and apologize
when the mistake was publicized).
