I, myself, have small hands. The only reason I mentioned Hendrix, is an
interview I read years ago, in
a guitar magazine, that he used his thumb over the neck alot to get notes
not available to someone with hands my size.
I also remember a quote, from a famous pianist, who's name escapes me. When
asked how he plays so well with such tiny hands, he replied, "I play with my
head not with my hands". That made me feel better about my small hands. I
shied away from Precisions and Music Man Stingrays thinking the neck was too
wide for me to play comfortabley. I eventually got a MM Stingray and while
the neck is  quite a bit wider, it didn't take me long to get used too. Plus
when I'd pick up my Fender Jazz it was mkuch easier to play.
